Many Electric Utility companies use Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) as an insulator for transformers, circuit breakers, switchgears, cable and other equipment.  SF6 is an outstanding insulator.  However, at $20.00 or more per pound, leakage of SF6 becomes very expensive very fast.  The SmartIR™ infrared gas camera is your first line of defense against costly Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) gas leakage.

The SmartIR™ infrared gas camera makes Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) leak detection simple.  Equipment can be surveyed from as far away as 20 feet.  The SmartIR™ infrared gas camera can detect some gas leaks as low as 500 ppm, greatly reducing product loss.

With the SmartIR™ infrared gas camera you can visually record your regular equipment surveys for up to 8 hours.   As you begin scanning equipment the SmartIR™ infrared gas camera begins recording the survey.  The camera screen will display GPS coordinates, battery life, date and time (See Figure 1).   When a leak is discovered, the SmartIR™ infrared gas camera will false color the leak for easy visual identification.  The SmartIR™ infrared gas camera analyzes the gas cloud and displays the top three chemical components of the leak.  The temperature at the center of the gas cloud is also displayed.

Video footage is stored on an SD card that is internal to the camera, no external recording device, for easy transfer to a computer for historical recordkeeping.

The SmartIR™ infrared gas camera is extremely versatile.  The SmartIR™ infrared gas camera gives you the ability to scan for hundreds of chemical compounds as well as just a few or even single compounds.  Simply select the specific spectral bands you want to scan for and the SmartIR™ infrared gas camera will only scan for compounds.  For instance, if Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) is the only compound you want to look for, simply select the spectral band for SF6 and that’s it.
